Contemporary British artist Tracey Emin began gaining notoriety after joining the Young British Artist group in the 1990s, creating bold, in-your-face works such as Everyone I Have Ever Slept With 1963-1995 (1995) and My Bed (1999). Her works are largely autobiographical; employing a wide range of media including textiles, film, drawings and neon lights, Emin is able to publicly express her life, thoughts and credences often through the lens of dark humor. In describing her work, Emin states 'the narcissism behind what I do—the self, self, self—and how difficult it is for me to really share things, even though I think I am sharing all the time.' Neon light Trust Yourself reads like a personal mantra or a hard lesson learned formed in her own handwriting. In bringing her advice to life, Emin is able to pass on this tough lesson to the souls who need it. Today, Emin's work can be found within a number of high-profile permanent collections world-wide, including the British Museum, London, the Museum of Modern Art, New York and the Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris.
