Design Within Reach Chilewich Imprint Jacquard Floor Mat
Sandy Chilewichs Imprint Jacquard Floor Mat (2012) has a pattern that mimics the quality of a natural brushstroke, with all the imperfections common to anything done by hand. Its evocative of graffiti, as if it were created quickly and intuitively. Imprint Jacquard is made of Chilewichs lightweight and easy-to-maintain woven vinyl – what she calls Plynyl®. After co-founding the successful HUE hosiery company with Kathy Moskal, Chilewich experimented with different materials until she stumbled upon this one, which became her signature textile. All Chilewich products have a long lifespan that helps the user reduce both energy use and costs while maintaining a sophisticated and modern aesthetic, says the designer. This stain-resistant commercial-quality mat is no exception, easily standing up to heavy traffic. A latex backing provides cushioning and prevents slippage. Backed by a two-year limited warranty. Design Within Reach Broken Stripe Rug
DWR Exclusive How do you create a neutral rug that also has a bit of bling? That was the challenge we posed when designing our Broken Stripe Rug (2010). A blend of viscose and wool, this rug has a subtle shine and plush texture that feels great under your feet, especially when you shed your shoes and socks. And unlike rugs with bold patterns that overpower the room, the Broken Stripe is more of a non-pattern aesthetic. It is unique and visually rich, but it doesnt steal the show from your furniture or artwork. (If only all the things in our lives were so well behaved.) The Broken Stripe Rugs manufacturer is a member of Rugmark, which ensures that the Rug is made in a socially responsible manner. The global nonprofit organization is fighting to end child labor and improve educational opportunities for children in India, Pakistan and Nepal. Made in India. Materials: 60% viscose, 40% wool. Measurements:Small: L 10' W 8' Pile 0.25" Large: L 12' W 10' Pile 0.25"
Design Within Reach Wavering Rug
After studying under renowned painter Giorgio Morandi in Bologna, Italy, Milton Glaser went on to co-found the revolutionary Push Pin Studios and the irreverent New York magazine. In 1974, he opened Milton Glaser, Inc., where he continues to produce an impressive body of work to this day. Among the worlds most celebrated graphic designers, Glaser has created some of the most recognizable and enduring graphics of our time, including the immortal I Love New York logo and numerous others. His vibrant Wavering Rug (2013) features a field of uneven stripes counterbalanced by a color gradation running perpendicularly to them. By gradually thickening these stripes lengthwise, Glaser succeeds in altering perception to create an illusion of pattern. Nani Marquina chose this design at first sight, realizing just how well it would translate into a rug. Together with the nonprofit Care & Fair, Nani Marquina is fighting against illegal child labor in the manufacturing of carpets. Made by hand in India. Materials: 100% wool. Measurements:Small: L 9' W 6' Pile 0.75" Medium: L 10' W 8' Pile 0.75" Large: L 13' W 9' Pile 0.75"
