Design Within Reach Cabrio Lounge Chair Design Within Reach Cabrio Lounge Chair

The inspiration for the Cabrio Lounge Chair (2009) came from a desire to strip away excess and greatly simplify the overly complicated Adirondack chairs that are found on the market today. Designers Greg Benson and Jeff Tally point out how the Cabrios single-plank back and wide arms are a nod toward the Westport chair, which was the inspiration for and predates the Adirondack. With a seat thats low to the ground and generously angled, Cabrio is built for casual lounging and enjoying the outdoors. This chair is made of recycled plastic reclaimed from post-consumer goods like milk jugs, which can be recycled again if necessary. Since Loll was founded in 2006, its use of recycled materials has kept millions of milk jugs out of landfills. The fade-resistant, waterproof, maintenance-free Cabrio Lounge Chair is made to last for years. Its no coincidence that it received a 2009 Good Design® Award from The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design. Ships flat to save on packing materials; simple assembly required (Allen wrench included). Made in U.S.A. Materials: 100% recycled post-consumer or post-commercial (depending on color) high-density polyethylene; high-grade stainless steel fasteners. Measurements:H 25.75" W 30.25" D 29.75"

DWR Exclusive Samuel Wilkinson thrives on bringing elegance and “a bit of soul,” in his words, to extremely functional products, which is why the Italian manufacturer EMU commissioned him to create a collection that blurs the boundary between indoor and outdoor furniture. Wilkinson met their request and took it a step further, designing the Grace Collection (2014) to be equally at home in residential and commercial settings. With a nod toward the graceful lines of 20th-century wood furniture, he resorted to die-cast aluminum for durability and weather resistance. “I wanted to create something people can enjoy for a long time because it works so well,” he explains. Stackable up to four high. Made in Italy. Materials: Powder-coated die-cast aluminum. Measurements:H 30.75" W 20.5" D 20.5" Seat H 17.75"

Craving furniture that could stand up to the salty environment of her seaside home in Florida, Florence Knoll called on Richard Schultz to create a decent set of outdoor furniture made out of materials that wont rust or corrode. That was in 1962, and Schultz spent the next four years designing his refined 1966 Collection, originally known as the Knoll Leisure Collection. At a time when most outdoor furniture was stamped out of metal with backrests shaped like bouquets of flowers, the 1966 Collection brought the clean lines and balanced proportions of indoor modern furniture to outdoor living. In the years since its debut, the collection has been re-engineered to take advantage of modern materials like Teflon® thread. In creating the 1966 Collection, Schultz satisfied Florence Knolls request for outdoor furniture that lasts, and many of the sets purchased 50 years ago are still being enjoyed today. The 1966 Collection is included in the permanent collection at MoMA. This is the authentic 1966 Lounge Chair by Knoll. Made in U.S.A. Fitted cover sold separately. Materials: Cast and extruded aluminum frame; weather-resistant polyester powder-coated finish; woven vinyl-coated polyester mesh; pure vinyl straps; Teflon thread; stainless steel supports and connectors; clear plastic floor glides. DWR Exclusive Based in Valencia, Spain, Borja Garcia is the founder of a multidisciplinary design studio and a professor in architecture and industrial design. “We are a team led by passion,” Garcia says of his staff, a group drawn together by their shared belief in research and working slowly to find the best solution instead of the fastest. Evoking the slim shape of a sail, his Stack Collection (2014) is an elegant amalgam of strength and grace. It’s noted for chairs with sling seats constructed of Batyline mesh, a supremely hardwearing outdoor textile praised for its exceptional tear strength, ability to retain shape and resistance to fading and mildewing season after season. Due in very large part to this durable mesh from French company Serge Ferrari, a leading manufacturer of composite materials, Stack is more than able to stack up to sun, salt and rain. The collection is rounded out with equally durable tables fitted with tough, low-maintenance phenolic resin tops. Suitable for residential and commercial use. Lounge Chair stacks up to three high. DWR Exclusive This simple chair is the work of Christophe Pillet, who has worked with many luxury brands, including Holly Hunt, FontanaArte and Veuve Clicquot. Whether working as the design director for Lacoste or as the interior architect for the Hotel Sezz in St. Tropez, Pillet has won international acclaim for his high-voltage chic, distinguished by his taste for certain rhythms and time signatures (for which he credits his early music career). After earning his degree from Domus Academy in Milan, Pillet became part of the Memphis Group, assisting Michele De Lucchi. In 1993, he started his own agency in Paris and was named Designer of the Year at the Salon du Meuble de Paris that same year. In recent years, hes been drawn to more modest projects, in which practical character and economy are privileged over any other criteria, says the designer. His Shot Café Chair (2011) is certainly in keeping with this current emphasis, fulfilling the need for a comfortable, compact chair at a great price point. Stackable up to 12 high, this outdoor chair is suitable for contract use. Made in Italy. Materials: Powder-coated tubular steel frame and steel mesh; polyester floor glides.
