As a ceramist, Rina Menardi has spent 30 years researching and perfecting her techniques and color schemes the result of which can be seen in her pieces. Inspired by nature and her own feelings, this extraordinary designer-craftswoman believes that “an object should not impose itself, but rather suggest visual and tactile sensations able to evoke our deepest emotions.” All handmade, Menardi's bowls and trays (1980) are characterized by simple lines and stunning colors. The red of a sunset, the purple of an autumn leaf, the white of an ocean shell can all be found in her ceramics. She chooses to work in baked clay because it allows her to express herself through gaining possession of some of nature's secrets. “Clay allows me to give a three-dimensional shape to the here-and-now ‘me,'” says the artist. “It is a way of communicating with myself and, therefore, with others.” Made in Italy. Materials Ceramic.
DWR Exclusive Samuel Wilkinson thrives on bringing elegance and a bit of soul, in his words, to extremely functional products, which is why the Italian manufacturer EMU commissioned him to create a collection that blurs the boundary between indoor and outdoor furniture. Wilkinson met their request and took it a step further, designing the Grace Collection (2014) to be equally at home in residential and commercial settings. With a nod toward the graceful lines of 20th-century wood furniture, he resorted to die-cast aluminum for durability and weather resistance. I wanted to create something people can enjoy for a long time because it works so well, he explains. Stackable up to four high. Made in Italy. Materials: Powder-coated die-cast aluminum. DWR Exclusive From a Swiss company that has prided itself on producing refined outdoor offerings since its founding in 1954, Inox Tables (1989) serve well in a number of settings – courtyards to backyards, streetside to poolside and more. These durable tables are smartly designed and finished to withstand heavy use and the elements. All borrow a convenient feature from antique tilt-top tables: hinges that allow their tops to be raised into a vertical position for compact storage. The stainless steel tops are embossed with an engine-turned scallop pattern that gives them a functional and attractive texture. Die-cast solid aluminum feet provide just enough heft for stability and are equipped with leveling glides to accommodate uneven surfaces. Suitable for residential and commercial use. Assembly required. Made in Switzerland. Materials: Stainless steel top; galvanized, polyester-coated steel column; cast aluminum feet. Measurements:H 28" Diameter 31.5"
