Design Within Reach Desk Lamps
Finnish designer Mika Tolvanen, winner of the prestigious Bruno Mathsson Award of 2012, named his simple basket Restore because its constructed of polymer felt made from recycled PET bottles. This eco-friendly approach is something that can be found in many of the projects Tolvanen has worked on since earning his masters degree in design from the Royal College of Art in 2001. Perfect for holding magazines, toys or even firewood, the Restore Basket (2009) holds its shape but is made of a soft material that wont scratch tabletop surfaces. I wanted the basket to have a non-obtrusive nature, says Tolvanen. And to give it a form that has a friendly appearance. Made in China. Materials: Polymer felt made from recycled PET bottles. Rather than develop his career within a single design discipline – be it industrial, furniture, interior, lighting or architectural design – Michele De Lucchi chose to move freely among them all, creating door pulls for Valli Colombo, laptops for Olivetti and tape dispensers for Pelikan while designing banks in Germany and apartment buildings in Japan. His Tolomeo Lamp (1987), designed in collaboration with Artemides R&D department head Giancarlo Fassina, was honored with the Compasso dOro Award in 1989, earning worldwide recognition for its perfect marriage of design and engineering. Since then, the Tolomeo Collection has grown to include an assortment of sizes and styles, each one beginning with a heavy base and ending with a parchment shade. In between, the multi-armed body is fully adjustable, with steel tension cables providing infinite positions in which the lamp can be held. Bulb (not included): incandescent 100W/E26/A19. UL Listed.
