Product Information Working out of his London studio, designer Sebastian Bergne has created everything from corkscrews to kettles for companies De Beers, Vitra and Habitat, among others. In his work for Tolix, he continues the tradition of metalworker Xavier Pauchard, who not only brought the art of galvanizing steel to France but also took the process to the next level by creating the quintessential café chair. After the sudden death of Pauchard in 1948, his son Jean took over as managing director of their company and has continued to grow the collection. The Marais Desk (2012) is sleek, streamlined and smartly designed. Its lift-up top allows for a surprising amount of storage in a small footprint, and the well-resolved cable management system will make any modernist swoon. Best of all, the top is divided into two parts, allowing you to grab supplies stored in the right compartment without disturbing the entire desktop. All Tolix metal furniture is still made in Autun, the same Burgundy town where it all began. Ships with legs detached to save on packing materials; simple assembly required. Made in France.
